Go Fund Me
Dear Maple Glen Families,
Jacob Orlick, one of our 5th grade students, has been diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. Ewing’s Sarcoma is a form of pediatric cancer. Jacob’s treatment will take approximately one year, and includes chemotherapy, surgery, and/or radiation.
The family is learning to juggle numerous doctors’ appointments and treatments in addition to taking care of Jacob’s sisters, Emma in 2nd grade and Dani in 1st grade.
The requests about how to help support Jacob and his family through this unbelievably difficult time have been heartwarming, but not surprising. The MGES community is clearly one that cares for each other and supports those in need.
Through working closely with the family, I have learned that the following ways to support Jacob and his family would be helpful:
1. T-shirts and Wristbands will be for sale at Maple Glen until Monday, June 10th.
Adult and youth T-shirts: $15
Adult and youth Wristbands: $3
If you prefer to place an order, please complete and return. T-shirt & Wristband Order Form
2. Giant Gift Cards: In order to take grocery shopping off the to-do list, please consider donating a Giant gift card. Gift cards can be sent to Mrs. Hamilton.
3. Donations to Jacob’s Go Fund Me page
Thank you so much for your support! It is truly an honor to work with such a caring, kind, and supportive community.

Crayola ColorCycle Program
UPDATE: MGES has collected 30 pounds of spent markers for the Crayola ColorCycle program so far!!! That is 30 pounds of markers that will not end up in landfills, but will be recycled into construction materials or used to generate electricity. Great job MGES and Girl Scout Troop 71 for making a difference!
Remember, any marker can be ColorCycled, not just Crayola. Spent markers can be collected from home and the classroom. Lets see if we can collect at another 30 pounds before the end of the year. Keep color cycling!

As a reminder, you may not serve as a chaperone on a trip unless you have received your Volunteer Card from the District's Human Resources Office. This includes all trips: the 5th Grade trip to Baltimore and ALL other grade level field trips.
This Volunteer Card is also necessary to be an active part of any class party or class helper. For example, the 5th Grade picnic at Mondauk or the Kindergarten End-of-Year Party.
The process is FREE and simple! The steps are outlined at this link: http://www.udsd.org/departments/human-resources/#toggle-id-5
But, in order for you to participate, you must have the District Volunteer Card.
New Vaccination Requirements: Reminder to all families that as of August, 2017 changes to the school vaccination requirements outlined by the Pennsylvania Department of Health will be in effect. On the first day of school unless your child has a medical or religious/philosophical exemption he/she must have had at least one dose of the required vaccinations or risk exclusion from school. Implemented changes to the school immunizations are intended to protect students against vaccine-preventable diseases. Please see District website for a link to the Immunization document provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. If you have questions regarding immunization requirements, please contact your healthcare provider or call 1-877-PA-HEALTH for more information.
